Youth recap...11/30/11

Return to Youth Blog

We had another great night Wednesday.

We looked at the story of Jesus birth and we were amazed at how God would send His son to the earth in such a humble and low key way."The really staggering Christian claim is that Jesus of Nazareth was God made man...The more you think about it , the more staggering it gets. Nothing in fiction is so fantastic as the truth of the Incarnation." - J.I. Packer. Staggering! The Author of Life wrote Himself into the story. But why?.....

We got into small groups & explored how Jesus was the ultimate in the Old Testament offices of Prophet, Priest & King.

Prophet reveals God by speaking God's word. Check out Mark 1:22 & Mark 1:35-39. No one can speak God's word better than Jesus because...He's God. He's the Word made flesh. (John 1)

Priest stands between God & His people as a mediator, advocate, intercessor, and sympathizer.
Check out Hebrews 4:14-16, 7:24-25 and 1 Tim. 2:5-6. As a priest Jesus cares for people and deals with their sin compassionately.

King is a territorial ruler with preeminent position. Check out John 18:33-37 & Rev. 19:16. Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This should be our view of Him. Lord of all.

Prophet, Priest and King. Good stuff. I got this from a book called Vintage Jesus by Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears. But when it was time to praise and worship together we were about to sing "Mighty to Save" and looked at another reason why He came to earth. In John 8, the Pharisees bring an adulterous woman to Jesus and say that the Law says she is to be stoned. Jesus tells them that if any of them are without sin they can throw the first stone. One by one they all walk away until it's just Jesus and the woman. He was the only one without sin. He was Savior.
"Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior". He is 'Mighty to Save'. He is the 'Author of Salvation'. Awesome!
Prophet, Priest, King.......Savior.
